The Big Five Personality Scale, Developed by Dr. R.N. Singh, is a 50-item self-rating scale designed to assess an individual on the five personality dimensions proposed by Costa and McCrae. The five personality dimensions are: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience.
The psychometric properties of the scale are as follows:
1. Test-retest and Split-half reliability has been computed for each subscale: Extroversion – Split-half(r=0.88) and Test-retest(r=0.84); Agreeableness – Split-half(r=0.87) and Test-retest(r=0.79); Conscientiousness – Split-half(r=0.78) and Test-retest(r=0.80); Neuroticism – Split-half(r=0.86) and Test-retest(r=0.82); Openness to Experience- Split-half(r=0.85) and Test-retest(r=0.78)
2. The scale has been standardized on a sample of 800 students comprising college students and working professionals. Separate gender norms have been computed for both the populations.
