Description

The T.O.V.A. 8 is a continuous performance test with an integrated Symptom Exaggeration Index (to identify possible causes of symptom exaggeration or malingering), integrated cross-test comparisons (to identify treatment effects), reporting of important new reaction time distribution parameters (from the Ex-Gaussian reaction time distribution), an Attention Performance Index (comparing the results with identified cases of ADHD), and compatibility with Macintosh® OS X and Windows® 7 and Vista®.

Two separate tests, T.O.V.A. and T.O.V.A.-A.®, measure visual and auditory processing, respectively, and feature a gender-stratified normative base of more than 4,000 children and adults. The T.O.V.A. is highly reliable, cost-effective, and easily administered, providing relevant and accurate measures of attention and impulsivity, and response to treatment.

With its timing accuracy, the T.O.V.A. is sensitive to the effects of treatment, including medication and other therapies, and can be used to determine optimal treatment responses, thereby minimizing treatment side effects and improving treatment compliance.

The T.O.V.A. stimuli are non-language-based and culture-free (two simple geometric stimuli or two simple tones) and help professionals rule out attention problems and discriminate attention disorders from learning disabilities while minimizing cultural differences in assessing attention. The “go/no-go” response paradigm avoids confounding variables such as complex information processing and memory.

Key Features of the T.O.V.A. are: –
1. Measure attention and monitor treatment of attention disorders, including ADHD, traumatic brain injuries, and other central nervous system disorders.
2. Gender-based norms for ages 4-80+ years.
3. Provides standardized 10.8-minute tests for 4- and 5-year-olds.
4. A two-part paradigm with both infrequent stimulus and frequent stimulus conditions measures attention, impulsivity, habituation to condition, and response inhibition.
5. Includes a specially designed, standardized, and highly accurate (±1 ms) electronic microswitch to avoid inherent variability of keyboards and mouse responses.
6. Provides a Symptom Exaggeration Index to flag possible cases of symptom exaggeration or malingering and an Attention Performance Index to compare results with those of identified cases of ADHD (compare up to four reports at once).
