Description

Social Network Addiction Scale is a norm-referenced, self-report inventory developed to measure the presence of social media addiction in individuals aged 16-18 years. The scale is based on three aspects that have been accepted as being affected due to social media addiction- Impulsivity, Visual Freedom, and Negative Outcomes.

The SNS scale is an efficient way of identifying individuals who are at risk of developing a social networking site addiction and also determining their proximity to the same. It is an excellent tool to determine using self-report the areas of life that might be getting affected due to overuse and make interventions to remedy the situation. Users are expected to respond to the scale on a 5-point Likert scale among the options- Strongly Agree, Agree, Uncertain, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. Having an overall score corresponding to more than the 50th percentile on any of the three factors of the scale suggests overuse and above the 75th percentile is indicative of addictive behavior and might need further investigation.
