Description

The peer pressure scale was developed mainly for the reason that youth problems are increasing day by day and peer pressure is one of the major factors in influencing such problems among them. Peer pressure is associated with many antisocial activities and risky behaviours among youths, e.g., smoking, drinking, drug abuse, road rage, traffic accidents, rule violation in public places, risky sexual behaviour, robbery, kidnapping, rape, and even murder and development of diseases like HIV infection. This manual describes the concept of peer pressure, its theoretical perspectives and risky behaviours associated with peer pressure. The scale aims to assess the level of peer pressure in adolescents to understand the increasing psychological and behavioural problems. The scale shall be useful for the assessment of peer pressure and for designing the interventional models for developing a coping mechanism for dealing with peer pressure.
