Description
MIST extremely useful to identify children who are finding the basic literacy concepts challenging at the mid way point of the senior infants year… Forward Together provides us with a very useful tool to work with parents to help their children improve their literacy skills.
The Middle Infant Screening Test (MIST) and Forward Together Programme focus on reading, writing and listening skills and together provide a comprehensive screening, diagnostic and recovery package for younger children.
MIST identifies early literacy difficulties and the Forward Together Programme provides a recovery programme for those children identified as likely to benefit. Lasting from eight to 12 weeks, the programme can bring pupils’ skill levels in reading and writing up to that of their classmates, raising confidence and self-esteem. Each pupil works through the Forward Together Activity Sheets either at home with the help of a parent, or in school with Learning Support staff.
The programme now includes a new Forward Together photocopiable binder, enabling even greater flexibility of interventions at home and at school, and accompanying updated commentary in the Teacher’s Guide. Results from MIST give an overall picture of a pupil’s performance and their learning strategies in functions which are related significantly to early reading and writing.
